Spotlight on Top-Notch Interior Designer Jeanne Chung

Sneak a peek at cutting-edge home design products. Learn to avoid major interior design faux pas, and find out why homeowners are excited about Pasadena’s Green Street Promenade.

Interior designer and style spotter blogger Jeanne Chung is helping Pasadena’s Green Street Promenade create a design district of its own. She realized Pasadena residents and designers did not have the resources locally and had to commute to across town to complete their interior design projects. Therefore, she recently opened a new interior design shop in Old Town Pasadena, Cozy•Stylish•Chic, lavish with every interior treat one could dream of to make great local design accessible.

Cozy•Stylish•Chic is a classic-meets-contemporary collection of curated art, new and vintage imports, custom designs, and cozy to cutting-edge lighting and home accessories. On her design blog, Jeanne describes her new store as, “Everything under one roof and in a cohesive and inviting space, where the consumer can coordinate all design details in one place.”

Watch out, La Cienega Design Quarter! According to Pasadena Magazine, Cozy•Stylish•Chic, and its neighbors—The Sofa Company, Design Within Reach, Molteni & C/DADA Flagship Store, Roche Bobois, and more—are establishing an exclusive design district that speaks to the timeless Pasadena aesthetic, yet pushes the boundaries just enough.

Jeanne Chung is a Parsons School of Design graduate with experience at the Anne Klein Design Studio, Norma Kamali, and 20 years in the garment industry. She has served on the Executive Board of TedX Pasadena Women, was recently selected as a High Point Market Style Spotter, and continues to work with the world’s largest furniture trade show on special projects. Jeanne travels all over the world to bring the best in style and design to Pasadena.

Tip: Avoid these DIY design mistakes

What are typical interior design flaws homebuyers make and how to make the most of your home design projects? We asked Jeanne, and here are her insider tips . . .

Measure, plan, go for quality.

Measure, plan, go for quality.

  • Forgetting to take into account the scale of furniture. Before purchasing, measure the furniture you want. Make sure it will fit through the front door, turn applicable corners, and fit the designated spaces.
  • Buying before designing and piecemeal designing. Purchasing all the appliances, fixtures, everything you want before considering all design aspects can cramp your style. Once everything is installed, it’s difficult (and costly) to undo if something doesn’t match your interior designs. It’s best to design first, taking into consideration space, color schemes, proportion, etc., then buy.
  • Purchasing by price, not by quality. Have a design concept, have a plan, and know the true value of what you’re buying. Jeanne cautions, “People don’t realize how much a lower-priced, lesser-quality product often costs more in the long run when you take into consideration how often it needs to be replaced.”

Personal expression in design is important, but being able to do so while being respectful of the architecture and underlying flavor of the space is not easy…which is why everyone should hire a designer! —Jeanne Chung, Rue Daily
